The American Airlines C.R. Smith Museum

by lostindrawers

This is probably one of the nerdiest things we have done. If you have some time on your hands, check out the American Airlines C.R. Smith Museum in far east Fort Worth!  While American may be in financial trouble these days, they really put together a surprisingly cool museum that is affordable ( $2 for student discounts!) and balances the experience with plenty of information.  A nice surprise was all the engines and displays on each era and we both really liked the displays of fashion has changed the uniforms of both pilots and flight attendants over the years.  It really was cool to check out old planes and the science behind flight.  Quite a pleasant and underrated museum and one of the more fun afternoons we have had.

And then reality set in as I, Bo, made an assumption about our fuel level and what do ya know…I got ourselves stranded on the side of Hwy 360 southbound with no gas and the weather making a turn for the worse.  Sooooo, long story short, a few hundred cars passing by us including a couple of taxis tow trucks AAA and even a gas truck. Finally, it turns out roadside assistance will eventually find you if you have an iPhone and money.  So, while the frustration of many passerbys zooming by without a care may be difficult to stomach, we are grateful to be back on the road and we celebrated with a chicken sandwich and a root beer float at Mansfield’s Suzy Q’s!  Then to just make sure we capped our day with gratefulness and giving, I finally sat Heather down for her first viewing of It’s A Wonderful Life, with our wassail and popcorn in hand.  Life gets real, it might cost you some money, but in the end we have so much to be grateful and thankful for this holiday season.
