Universal Studios Orlando – Day One

by lostindrawers

I don’t think we’ve been as excited as we were for a trip as we were for this wonderful trip to Universal Studios Orlando! It wouldn’t have been possible without the love and generosity of family, particularly one Nancy Brooks. We knew we would be driving to Florida from East Texas, although we didn’t realize how mentally draining driving straight through can be.  Our advice: fly if you can, or work in a stop or two if you have the time. Orlando is a deceivingly large town, and an 17 hour trip taught us to embrace toll roads – they are worth the expense. Despite a detour and a really late night, we got to Universal and Day One became about both getting our bearings and getting the most fun in the time we had at the park. Universal is two parks in one, and the key is to get passes that are for two parks per day, so you can go back and forth. This makes the overall experience a lot more fun. In Island of Adventure, you have Marvel Superhero Island, Toon Lagoon, Seuss Landing, Jurassic Park and of course The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Universal Studios takes you through famous cities and neighborhoods, all of which are awesome. What is not awesome about Universal is the minimal amount of signs and confusing information. A tip: if you want to go to Harry Potter, you need to get an Entry Time “Return” Ticket, so we found out the hard way that the only way to get that is to go immediately upon arrival to Jurassic Park and find the kiosk area to get your (free) return ticket for your group.  Without it, you can’t get in – which we didn’t until day two. Overall, the first day yielded a lot of fun exploring each area and we ended up going over to the original Universal Studios, where the lines were shorter and faster.  And our favorite rides of the day? Don’t skip the classic E.T. ride, The Simpsons and the underrated Cat In The Hat! It was a great day, although having to wait for Harry Potter an extra day was not fun for one Bo Liles. Soon, it was late afternoon and we had a certain puppy to go pick up from across town, which is a story for another post. Universal Studios Day One = a smashing success!
