Lost in Drawers

Month: June, 2013

Oh, Sundays…Sundays can be incredibly boring, then fun and then boring again. It seems the pups love to wake up earlier and earlier as the summer days go by. This morning it was an 8 am wake up call. As the morning routine led into a nap for the boys, it was evident summer was in full swing around our house.

We decided to make a swing through the nearby antique mall, which being near the botanic gardens meant we couldn’t resist flowers and babbling brooks. But as the pups soon singled on a walk that barely made it up the block, the summer sun was going to win the day. Still, as the evening came and we all are settled in for the night, we can only patiently anticipate the DVD release of of Studio Ghibli’s From Up On Poppy Hill. Because that would be the best thing these warms nights could bring.

Love L747 Brown Tort

First Pair Free. I mean, who doesn’t love Free? Though it wasn’t actually free free, as I ended up paying about $17 for shipping and such. But, all in all – pretty good for a new pair of eyeglasses. Thank you Coastal glasses. The shipping was extremely fast, as it only took a few days to arrive.  Before I knew it – bam! They were here and quite lovely. I already have RayBan cat eye frames, which truly are very “cat- eyey?” Yet, these have a vintage flair but with a modern twist. Dork chic? I sure hope so. Of course, new frames meant an excuse to have a photo with a Totoro!

As it is, we are slowly getting things ready for our August Disney World trip. It was a trek to the mall to check out sales, sales, sales. And man, were there sales, but no buys for me. BUT, we did run into our new Sanrio type store and so I just had to come home with Chococat! Right? I couldn’t not. Today? Today was a good day. A Chococat day!

A Little of This, A Little of That

Well, this is a true “a little of this, a little of that” post. All comprised of Instagram photos, and all truly random photos of our week. We celebrated more of Bo’s 34th birthday (week) with my family, geeked out over Monsters University, hung out with the pups a lot – we got a walker in one young Clio, yall! In addition, Lost in Drawers Vintage shop was featured on Messages On A Napkin’s site, we even found a sunflower field (doesn’t happen every day, folks) and once again Bo was my partner in crime whilst shoe shopping (even though we found nothing). That’s just what we could remember! It’s already a busy start to a busy summer. But remember, our dear readers – we adore you always, and thank you for all your support and goodness!

Happy Birthday Mister

Boy oh boy, what can I say about this husband of mine. He is such a man of worth and love, with the ultimate giver’s heart. Of all the people in all the world, I get to be a part of your life, kid. I am forever grateful for this. What a privilege to go through all the adventures we are blessed to be able to go on. He is a totally legit puppy papa, the top of the tops. I can only pray and wait with excitement to have children with this man. What a daily blessing you are. Your wit and hilarity has gotten us through many a challenge. You are crazy, and wonderful and the BEST rib smoker I have ever met! I mean what else could you ask for!

Happy 34th Birthday!

P.S. I wouldn’t have Vietnamese food and boba tea with anyone else!

If a June night could talk, it would probably boast it invented romance.

So, we took a few photos for our sponsorship post over at Messages on a Napkin, and needed a few updated shots for our Etsy shop. Really, any opportunity to put on a vintage full skirted dress and have fun with your husband? I will always take that. Because, the most important thing is fun. Fun! Fun, when we are getting honked at as cars drive by, fun when you are in a public place and people are silly, fun when you are in 100 degree heat and are burning up and sweat is dripping down your bangs. THIS IS FUN, PEOPLE! That’s what I’m talking about.

Speaking of fun, Bo’s birthday is on Wednesday…and I plan to make it a day for him…maybe even a week if my family has anything to do with it. I’m sure it will include BBQ, PHO, and lots and lots of Pinkberry! Happy birthday, husband of mine!

Messages on a Napkin

We sent a little Lost in Drawers care package to our friend Marlen, of Messages on a Napkin, which not only are we sponsors of but we are so thankful for all of her support and kindness towards our business/shop! Goodness goes a long way in our heart. And might we say, she looks pretty spectacular in this dress. AND she has her own vintage boutique on Etsy! Please go check it out…it’s all kinds of good:

As one that harbors a penchant for anything that looks like it could have possibly been stolen from the grandpa down the hall, this shop is my careful curation of the best elbow patches and Bill Cosby sweaters on this side of the Mississippi.

With a shop motto like that….we can definitely get behind Bear and Twine! Check out our her wonderful blog as well!

Lost in Drawers Vintage Trunk Show

Today was somewhat of a milestone for Heather and I, as we took Lost In Drawers Vintage out into the real world with our very first booth at a local trade show of sorts. I can say that I am so very proud of Heather for all the hard work she does for our business, and it was an interesting and eye-opening experience all the way around. And why wouldn’t we want to show off some pretty frocks and a few accessories to boot? We couldn’t have done it without the support of our family, and we learned firsthand the challenges of designing, setting up, running and tearing down a booth in not-so-perfect conditions. So, in spite of being mismatched with the vendor types present at the show, and the venue being an interesting choice by the organizers, we found our way there, learned about the need for sturdy tables, racks and mannequins and did our best to represent what we have worked so hard to create with Lost In Drawers Vintage!

So, while the event didn’t quite meet the expectations of the vendors or the claims of the organizers, we had a good time and met a lot of vendors with a lot of good product: a cocktail ring from Covered in Glitter, candles from Candles N More from Mrs. Audrey, the kind gals at Lola’s Sugar Truck, and an amazing Mickey Mouse necklace from Yuntan!  (Check all these people out, for reals!) It was quite nice meeting people who are as passionate about what they do as we are about vintage. And as the pace was slow, soon enough we were packing up and what better way to celebrate a long day? Mexican food with the family! We are blessed, and we are armed with plenty of ideas and tips to make our future shows even better than the start!

(We had many, many lovely and great shoppers, and we thank them all from the bottom of our heart. These photos were behind the scenes if you will!)

Hillsong United

PicMonkey Collage2

It was a Tuesday Night date night! I got to spend some really good time with Bo.

Hillsong United blew our minds, our hearts and souls away. If I could buy everyone I know or ever have known, a ticket to one of their worship experiences….I would! I WOULD! Such great energy and spirit, in an environment that was beyond next level. Who needs Zumba when you had a Hillsong dance off with your husband? I mean it was absolutely amazing, inspiring and incredibly intense!

Now, can we just talk about concert attendance for a minute? I mean, one can really get into the music, cant you? And this being a praise and worship night, a hat probably wasn’t my smartest choice. However, the best part of wearing a wide brimmed hat is you can muffle the loud noise as needed. The worst part is..said hat falling off every single time I would move/dance…but I wouldn’t change a single thing about last night.

What a great night to remember His love is relentless!

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Flower Village – Dallas

It’s no surprise that I am in love with all things Alice in Wonderland. It’s been a part of my life from the very beginning. I’m quite fanatical about it, SO when we saw on Groupon that the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens were having a
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Flower Village,  we knew we had to get there quick to take it in. Granted, we paid $6 bucks each, which was fitting for the display being only 4 houses. It was sweet, and nostalgic, and lovely. In addition, it  was quite steamy, but we seem to have fun with anything. And I will take a day date that is centered around Alice anytime at all.

2Well, lately it’s been all about getting ready for the upcoming show and with that, getting our booth ready.  We’ve been setting our inventory, buying new things to add to the collection, I’ve fallen in love with a few things we have had for a while and maybe will have to put some things back for my own collection. As seen in my outfit posts.* This process is all very new for us, and we honestly have no idea what it will bring. But regardless, our top priorities are to be kind and work really really hard.

But besides Lost in Drawers Vintage/fashion, it’s puppy central in our home. All puppies all the time. We love them both very much. A tad too much? We need to get out beyond this nesting action as of late, probably more than we do. So, if the weather cooperates, a trip to Dallas sounds like a good change of scenery?

*Crosses fingers*
